ARROWS proposes both complete and partial chains between worth elements.

For either Perceived or Requested worth, complete chains connect NHSC to supported features, features to related qualities and, finally, qualities to impacted HOEs.

Partial chains should be considered in the two following cases: (1) when a quality is a ‘must’, then the connection between the quality and the impacted HOE(s) can be omitted because the effect is supposed not to be significant; (2), when a quality is an intrinsic one, then the connection between the feature and the quality can be omitted.

The figure on the side presents a complete worth map for Lyric (NHSC are grouped according to device type). The highlighted chains can be read as follows.

  • Blue: Geofencing relies on some network connections (the Wi-Fi of the Lyric device is highlighted here) for data exchange; the feature presents the quality of being smart because knows when the house is empty or occupied and proceeds to appropriate adjustments accordingly; as such, the Geofencing feature contributes to energy and money saving which may enhance financial security for the user.

  • Pink: The manual setting feature allows the user performing appropriate adjustments (thanks to input devices) and, therefore, allows her experiencing physical comfort through adapted room temperatures.

  • Gray: The Money/Energy saving computation component would rely on wireless network connections for data exchange; the feature should present the quality of being comparative, i.e., provide the user with comparable information (e.g., energy consumptions over the last three months, total of energy consumption over the last six months in comparison to the carbon footprint of a fight Paris-Berlin); such information might raise the users awareness of her energy consumption and, consequently, create ambition for habits change.
